Man from Halesworth Completes 11 Marathons in 11 Weeks

In a bid to become a member of the 100 marathon club, Halesworth resident Ian Taylor, 46 has completed 11 marathons in as many weeks.

Mr Taylor who previously worked for the Royal Mail first started marathon running in 2007. He was inspired by the idea of completing a hundred marathons and decide to embark on the gargantuan running journey.

A member of the Bungay Black Dog running club, Mr Taylor has already completed 52 marathons in just under 5 years of running.

His latest test of 11 marathons clocked up over 288 miles as he competed at Steyning, Bedford, Brighton, Crawley, Battle, Bungay, London, Bletchley, the Three Forts Challenge, Halstead and Orpington.

Mr Taylor told the Eastern Daily Press , “It is the challenge of it, but also seeing the countryside. Where those marathons are, are really nice, like Halstead, north Essex. It is not an area I know particularly well and would not travel all the way down there just for a training run.”

The Halesworth runners aim to complete 100 marathons needs a huge dose of dedication and week on week proved to be a mind game for Mr Taylor,

“When you are doing that frequency you have to look at the bigger picture. You have to remain fit and well, and most importantly injury free to do it all again next week and the week after”.

Mr Taylor is a great example for the regions running. There are several running clubs throughout Suffolk and Norfolk, who enjoy thriving memberships due to the beautiful surrounding countryside to run in. So if you feel like strapping on those running shoes this summer take Mr Taylor as your example and get running!
