Stephen Basey-Fisher started small. The son of a farming family, he studied business at Writtle College in Essex, then returned home and was struck by inspiration.
He noticed several unused buildings on the family farm, and decided to rent them out as storage.
Now, only a couple of decades later, he is the owner of the largest warehouse in East Anglia, and is set to become a major player in the world of storage.
His company, Century Logistics, employs over 140 members of staff, and is becoming a key employer in the local community. The storage industry is finding that the recession does not really pose a problem, as storage is a necessity that few are willing to do without.
Now, the vast 140,000 square foot warehouse he has built near Bury St Edmunds is forming part of the region’s business renaissance, which has seen the region become not only a centre for tourism, but also a great place to live and work.
