Fay Sweet wrote for many years about architecture and design for a variety of magazines and national newspapers. Now, as an artist, architecture features large in her work. Renowned 20th century artist John Piper is a powerful inspiration in her paintings. This exhibition includes a series of paintings in celebration of our local shopkeepers and also includes well known landmarks from the surrounding countryside and coast. Sarah Muir Poland is a landscape painter with a particular love of Suffolk, where she says "the sky seems to sit closer to the ground than in other parts of the British Isles". Inspired by colourist Hugo Grenville, Sarah began her painting life in Suffolk where she was trained initially at the Red House Studio in Mendham. Sarah enjoys finding new ways to express how she feels about the landscape and ways to be able to communicate this in some small measure. Alongside the guest artists, the gallery will have examples of gallery owner Mary Gundry’s paintings, together with her partner Colin Huggins’ photography. There are also "cheeky" ceramics by new exhibitor Daphne Sandham, along with the ever popular work of ceramicist Joe Lawrence. There are also limited edition bronze sculptures by Michael Simpson. The exhibition will run from Friday 7 February until Saturday 8 March 2014 – gallery open 10am to 5pm weekdays (Thurs 10-1), and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.
